How the Right Words Help Your Journey

These article contains some phrases said by my friends to me and how it has helped my journey.

Few weeks ago, I had a tough time battling with my self-esteem and looking for a way to make my life better. I like to see myself as someone that would go through things no matter the troubles surrounding it but that week was difficult. It was different. I’ve never felt that way, I was just held back.

I really didn’t have what to say to anybody but few phrases that my friends said to me had helped me pull up again and I’d be sharing them.

I had just finished discussing with a friend concerning her feelings, she had a lot to say and I really just had few words to say because to be honest I didn’t know what to say. I only said what felt would be the right answer because we were discussing emotions and she listened with rapt attention. I needed her to jazz up, she shouldn’t be caught slacking. There’s a whole world ahead of us. I woke up to a voice message from her and it melted me. It’s a reassurance for me because I had felt very weak the previous week.

I don’t know how much this word meant. Knowing that I had not told anybody how I felt. He really picked up his phone to call and check up on me. To reassure me that I could go through whatever I was going through and I got it. It was intense, I cried. They were the words I needed. He ended the call to say that I should always reach out if there’s anything I need. Not like I didn’t know, I needed to be reminded.

I had just told the ED of an organisation I volunteer for, who is also my friend that I was resigning, she didn’t take it hard or anything. She agreed and explained that I do too much for other people and I forget about myself. I get carried away making things work for other people while I struggle with getting my things done. It’s hard. It pierced through my heart. I was tired. Honestly, I knew those words were mine and mine to hold. I need to start looking out for myself more that I had ever done before.

“I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word. Sometimes I write one, and I look at it until it begins to shine.” Emily Dickinson
